Nutritionist Marjan and RN Christina teamed up to produce this Holland-America Diet. Comparing the American way of eating with the European (Dutch) way of eating, made it clear what the main problem could be with weight issues in America -where Christina lives and struggles with her weight along with millions of other Americans.

This lightly written book is not only a source of good eating information, it is also a fun read. The conversations between Christina (in Florida) and her sister-in-law Marjan (in The Netherlands) are very recognizable, with Marjan being very health focused and Christina simply loving to enjoy life with good food.

The Holland-America Diet starts with explaining where we usually go wrong.
The Diet talks about:

  • the foods and drinks that are good for us
  • the foods and drinks that are bad for us
  • and a healthy solution.

The healthy solution that the Holland-America Diet offers is an easy to follow three-step diet, where the first program is very strict (if you want to lose weight faster), the second program less strict and more forgiving (lose weight at your own pace, simply because every now and again life gets in the way of a strict program), and the third step shows you how to maintain your weight.

At the end of the book The Holland-America Diet, we added easy to make and delicious recipes, to give some meal ideas. We add more recipes on our blog, so don't forget to check that out as well!

The Holland-America Diet is totally written for the American market. Any weird recipes Marjan had (for example in The Netherlands people eat a lot of salads made with Belgium Endive. Belgium Endive is very expensive in the USA), Christina changed so it would fit the American market and budget better!

The Holland-America Diet book has over 100 pages, and is clear and easy to understand.

Before publishing our book, we had it tested. One of the people testing the Diet was Christina herself, since it all started out with Marjan writing a simple easy-to-follow diet for Christina!

While writing the book, Christina followed the Holland-America Diet and even openly tells about her struggles in the book. Christina's view on her struggles: "No diet is ever easy! You have to get in the right mindset. You have to get used to a certain way of eating. And when all is said and done, you have to read the book once more, to familiarize yourself with the rules again. The longer people follow a diet, the more they will make up their own rules.
